I haven’t trimmed it since early February and it is really growing fast.  I would have gotten it cut a long time ago but I have been letting it go for a very good reason!

I responded to an email months ago about a Pittsburgh Mom Bloggers Hair Day event.  They were inviting a certain number of ladies to a salon for a (free!!) pampering day!  The first ones to reply were in and guess who was one of them?!  ME!!!

I just got more details today and I am so psyched to go! 

The day of fun is going to be on May16th and it is at Divinity Salon in Aspinwall. 

This day will include cuts, color, styling tips, blow drying tips, goodies, snacks, possible giveaways and just a bunch of fun! 

I recognize the names of a few of the ladies that are going to be there and I am thrilled to be able to finally meet them!   I look forward to getting to know all of them though. 

I don’t know what I will have done to my hair but I know that I will have fun getting it done.  The owner of the salon is on the creative team for Alterna Haircare (which apparently Jennifer Anniston uses!)

What a great opportunity for us Pittsburgh Mom Bloggers!

Most of the events that we do are for the March of Dimes.  We have a family team that we are a part of and so we participate in the annual “Bowling for Babies” event that is really a ton of fun.  Anyone in the area can go and spend the afternoon bowling, eating, drinking and trying to win some great raffles. 

We also participate in the annual walk, March for Babies in Pittsburgh.  We walk in memory of a sweet angel, Kaydence and walk in honor of her brother who was born early and spent the first few weeks of his life in NICU and then again when he contracted RSV. 

I have already added the widget to my sidebar for this year’s walk in trying to raise funds for the organization. If you have a walk in your area, I encourage you to participate.  It is a great way to help out babies and it will definitely make you feel good.

Another event that has been brought to my attention in this area is the Walk for Alex.  It is taking place in North Park in April.  His story and the details can be found here.

If you have any other events going on in your area or in the Pittsburgh area, please let me know.  I would love to check them out and see if I can join in on the fun and charity.

I offered to help my niece with the planning, organizing, fundraising, donations, etc. for the bowling event.  She accepted my offer and I am hoping I can really help her out. 

I don’t know how hard/easy it is going to be to get companies to donate items, coupons or gift cards because of the economy right now.  I am going to give it my best shot though.  I am also going to make a gift basket for the silent auction. 

This is the third year that they’ve done this bowling event so they are always looking for new events or things to add in. 

I have to make a list of the places to hit up and type up a letter to give them for tax purposes. 

The people who attend the fundraiser pay to attend and it includes their games, shoe rental, food and drinks.

  All the money that is made goes directly to the March of Dimes in the name of my niece’s daughter who lived for 47 minutes on her own after being born at 22 weeks gestation.  It’s a sad story to listen to but the outcome has included raising money for a cause that is near and dear to so many. 

I emailed a funny email that is used to help me get more sponsors for the walk in May and about 15 minutes after I sent it, I got a donation of $50!  I am so excited.  I also had two other people tell me that they would sponsor me.  It is amazing to me how giving people are.  I mean, I try to do the same when I can but with the way things are these days, it’s hard to give anything.  I am so appreciative of the help.  I want to be able to say that during my life, I helped people, I contributed to different causes and I may have made a difference. 

I’ve done walks to raise money for a Cancer Caring Center, Multiple Sclerosis and March of Dimes.  I am hoping to add more to that list in the next few years. 

I urge anyone who is interested in these different walks to research them and join in…it is so easy and for a worthy cause.  Also, you will feel so good about it.  Even if it has no effect on your life directly, you will feel better for doing it.
