The joys of boys

When I was pregnant with Jada, I was really hoping for a girl.  Of course I was hoping for a healthy baby but I was also 20 years old and what pregnant 20 year old wouldn’t love a little girl?!  I got my girl, I was over the moon and I love my girl!

She is so different from her brothers.  She is calm, kind, loving, gentle and quiet.  My boys are not!

I would say that I am the type of mom that does well with boys though.  Growing up, I enjoyed playing in the dirt, climbing trees, making mud pies, riding bikes and doing all the things that the boys did.  I even tried to pee standing up, several times.  True story…sick and weird I know!!  My neighbor and I thought we’d try it to see if we could do it!  I can’t believe I just shared that with the internet!!!  LOL!!

Anyway, I was so happy to find out that I was having a boy when I was pregnant with Chuckie.  I would have my sweet girl and my rough and tumble boy.  Now I have two boys, which means twice the fun and twice the yelling!!

Chuckie had his first game this past Saturday and if you are my friend on Facebook or follow me on Twitter, you know that he did well!  He made his first touchdown on the first play of the game, running it 60 yards or so!!  I am so proud of him. I had to really try hard not to cry after he ran that in!  I held it together but I think everyone there knew how happy and proud I was because of the smile that was plastered on my face!  He did so well and we were thrilled with his playing.  After the game I asked him how it felt to get a touchdown and run it in…he said, “it was awesome and amazing!”

As wonderful as it was to see him do that, it was absolutely heartwarming to watch Chuck that evening at a wedding reception telling all his coworkers about his son’s touchdown and tackles. He is so proud. He just kept telling everyone every detail of the game.  Chuck works long hours at work and so he doesn’t get to spend a ton of time with Chuckie.  They don’t always see eye to eye or just hang out as father and son.  It’s hard on both of them but this is most likely the turning point.  They have something very real in common.  They now can discuss their touchdowns and running.  You know, that male bonding crap!

On Sunday, Chuckie went to a birthday party at a friend’s house.  They got to run an obstacle course, shoot a potato gun, play in the creek and ride a 200 foot zipline through the woods.  It sounded absolutely perfect to me and I wouldn’t have minded joining them!  When I got back to pick him up, he had a cup with a salamander in it.  So now, we have a new pet salamander named George.  Chuckie did research online to find out what this new guy will eat and what he needs to survive.  He is taking good care of him and he has lived 3 days in our house…it’s amazing!!

On to the other boy.  Lincoln…oh my little guy.  He is ferocious and dangerous.  Last week, he stood on the computer chair at his Gramma’s house, the kind that swivels so just as Gramma was telling him not to stand on it, he fell and smacked his forehead on the coffee table.  A nice big bump followed and he looked a little odd!  Last night at football practice, he went to the playground and was running, tripped and his teeth went into his bottom lip.  He was bleeding pretty good and was left with a big, puffy bottom lip.  Today when I got the kids after work, my Mother-in-law informed me that he had some new boo boos.  He has a bump on his forehead again and a big, red mark on the area between his eyes.  The kid is absolutely accident prone.  The in-law’s feel really bad but I had to remind them that Lincoln is crazy and wild.

My days with my boys are never dull that is for sure!!  The days are full of yelling, correcting, kicking, screaming, fighting, scrapes, bumps and bruises.  However, the days are fun and I would not have it any other way!!

I think everybody should have both, don’t you? I hope that I do, but the cool thing is that I love Andrew most for things that aren’t really boy or girl. I hope I can encourage the things that I love in him. I do worry that we won’t be very close as he grows up (he’s already independent, I can’t imagine that will change much) but as it turns out, kids aren’t born with the purpose of needing their mother – they are unique people! It’s pretty amazing. I like this post. :)

It’s always interesting to read posts like this from mothers with both girl(s) and boy(s). :)

For a long time I didn’t want kids at all… then (before Oliver) I wanted two girls… and as it turns out I’ll have two boys! I love them beyond words and I wouldn’t trade them for anything. I believe that God gives us the exact children He wants us to have.

You are blessed with three beautiful and bright kids, and they are lucky to have you & C for their parents!
