Something New
Well, since I am back from vacation, I guess I will do a post about something other than the beach.
We are back in the routine of everyday life now. The kids now have only four days of school left after today. I have mixed feelings about this as it means we don’t have to rush around in the mornings and do homework in the afternoons. It also means having the kids home all the time and complaining about constant boredom.
Today is my first day back to work at the restaurant, it feels like forever since I’ve been there. I usually work Mondays and Fridays but since we were closed Monday for Memorial day I didn’t work. Speaking of work……I got a call from the owner of the daycare that I interviewed at before vacation. I had interviewed on a Thursday and they said that they were conducting interviews until the following Tuesday, then starting to select the people that Wednesday so I figured that they would start calling people that week. By Saturday, I was feeling pretty down at the fact that I didn’t receive a call and that once again, I did not get the job.
Just by coincidence, the owner’s daughters were in Jada’s ballet class and so I knew that I would be seeing the owner that weekend at the dance recital. I was actually rehearsing in my head what I would say if she said something to me about not getting the job..thanks for the interview, no, I understand you have to choose the people that work best for the daycare…that sort of stuff. I did see her but I don’t think she saw me but I was happy to avoid any possible awkwardness!
So we left for vacation that Sunday and I really wasn’t thinking much about the job…hello, I was at the beach! I don’t even remember what day it was, maybe Tuesday or Wednesday. I got a call but didn’t recognize the number, it was a local number from home though so I answered it. It was the owner, Amy. She told me that they (she and the daycare director) were very impressed with me at the interview and they want me to work for them. Unfortunately, they aren’t even open yet and they have to wait until their enrollment is up for me to start working. She said that I would be the aide in the room so whomever I am working with will be the one to work there first until the ratio of children to adults is higher than they can handle. I did apply to be in the infant room. They were surprised and happy about this, I guess not a lot of people were hoping for that position?! I love babies, the sweet little ones, before they get to the biting, hitting, screaming, running, mean stage! I already have that at home with Lincoln! So, the ratio in that room is 8 babies to 2 adults so, as soon as there are more than four babies enrolled, she is going to call me. She was hoping that it will be soon and so do I!!
I don’t know what hours I will be working or what days but the perk to working at a daycare is that it closes at 6pm..or 6:30pm and they are closed on weekends and holidays!! The infant room is for babies from 6 weeks to 12 months old. So there is quite a variety of stages that the babies can be in and it will probably be challenging but I hope to love it and thrive there. Not to mention that it means that I will be bringing in more money and we can get the heck outta here!
In other unrelated news, we decided to keep the puppy. I don’t think that I even mentioned that we were thinking of finding her a new home but we were. She isn’t completely housetrained and she does need some work and when we got her, we weren’t completely ready for all of that. She is a good dog. She is good with the kids and our dog, Coco, loves to play with her. I think with our vacation coming up, we were feeling even more pressure to find her a new home but vacation came and went and we are now committed to keeping her and training her and she is doing well so far. I got the dog license yesterday so we are official. Next up, her shots. I will have to call the vet to schedule her shots, I don’t think she’s ever had any since the previous owners were aweful to her. I mean, they didn’t even feed her so I’m sure they didn’t take the time to get her any shots. Yes, I realize that we should have gotten them for her when we took her in but we didn’t and now we will.
Things seem to be looking up for us now and I hope it continues because let me tell you, things have been sort of rough around here. We are floating along but we need to be on dry land and soon we will be.
Hey, it’s Friday! Have a good one, it’s raining here but the weekend is supposed to be nice!
