Today is the first day of the rest of your life

Today is the first day of school in our house.  The kids have been ready for a good twenty minutes now and we have about a half hour until it’s time to leave.  They are a bit excited and nervous.  I am feeling the same way.

Jada is going to third grade this year.  That in itself is crazy to me.  Chuck was surprised too when he found out that she is not going into second but into third.  Yes, he wasn’t sure when someone asked him yesterday what grade she was going into!

The kids decided to take their showers this morning rather than last night.  This might become a habit because they said that it wakes them up a little more.

Chuckie is dressed like a typical boy….cargo shorts and a football jersey.  Jada is dressed in all white.  She is all set with her Hannah Montana lunchbag and messenger bag.  She has informed Chuckie that when you get older, lots of the girls use messenger bag-style bags.  Whatever.

I will post pictures later at Flickr.

I have always driven the kids to school on their first day.  When we went to the school so the kids could find their classrooms, we never practiced their routes when getting dropped off and going in the side doors.  Jada’s classroom is right inside those side doors so she is fine but Chuckie is downstairs and he doesn’t quite know where to go.  Jada said she will walk him to the staircase that he needs to go to.  (there are either 3 or 4 different staircases to get downstairs) There’s a perk of having your older sister in the same school….she loves to take care of him so she is happy to show him the way!

Jada and Chuckie were also talking about how much they are going to miss Lincoln today.  Jada said that when she gets out of the car, she doesn’t think she can look at Lincoln for fear that she may cry.  That statement alone made me want to cry…I get choked up just typing that.  Chuckie said he wishes that school was over at 10am so he could get home to his little brother sooner.  Lincoln will miss them but I think they are going to miss him more.  They keep telling him that they won’t be gone forever and that they would never leave him.  He looks at them like they are crazy!

I get teary-eyed every year as I pull away from the school.  I’m sure that this year will be no exception.  Summer seems to go by faster every year and even though they drive me absolutely crazy, I do miss them when they go back to school.  These kids are growing up too quickly and soon they won’t want me at the bus stop and won’t even say goodbye.

I am looking forward to their coming home and finding out all the details of their day.  I’ll be up to my ears in paperwork from their teachers and they will be talking nonstop.

Oh, anyone that knows me in real life….do you know who used to say that title all the time?  Hint….he was a teacher in middle school!

    I know! I know!

    Is he still there?

As excited as I was for the first day of school, I did get a little emo, seeing Jaden get on the bus! He was so excited he almost forgot to hug me! Tomorrow is orientation for Joey and then all day Kindergarten for him!

    I KNOW!!!!! :)

That is so cute that Jada said she’d miss Lincoln, how awesome is that?

When I dropped Maggie off at daycare this morning, there were a bunch of parents there with video cameras and stuff (there’s a bus stop there) and I was like DUDE. I don’t even want to think about the fact that in 4 years, that will be me. *cry*
